AN ANIMAL lover paid $100 to buy a giant stingray caught off the East Coast - so he could release it back into the sea.

Mr Desmond Teo, who reported the incident on citizen journalism website Stomp, said he was cycling when he spotted a fisherman who had just hauled in an unusually big catch.

On closer inspection, he saw that it was a stingray estimated to weigh "around 20kg".

"It was huge. The fisherman said it took almost three hours to reel it in," Mr Teo said.

About 10 onlookers had gathered to witness the catch when a man in his 60s stepped up to offer $80 for the fish.

The fisherman rejected him before the man then offered $100 - on the condition that the fisherman release the stingray back into the wild.

"Even the fisherman was taken aback and so was I," said Mr Teo, 38, a real estate agent.

The rare catch was released after 10 minutes.

Mr Teo added: "I was really touched. Such acts of kindness are so rare in the world today."

The worst killers are these retards who thinks that by letting the animal free, they are doing a good deed. It only promotes commercialisation and more killing of the animals. The hunting stops only when the buying stops.

wah lau.....that face is a disaster area man...can give knnbccb's face a good fight.

You have been shooting off your dirty mouth just once too many times. Just watch your kharma. Your pay back is not if..... it is when. You are evil.

Must be one of those silly Buddhist.

Great job pal, accumulate more merit and soon you won't be subject to the cycle of death and rebirth anymore.

Bedok Jetty and East Coast beach is a good fishing spots..

Its not common to see shore anglers hooking up 20 kg and above Sting rays..

That's why you see many anglers at Bedok Jetty every night.. Some harcore ones would even camp at the Jetty to 'chope' the good spots there.. Leopard rays are also quite common..

I ever saw an Ah Pek and his Malay friend hooked up a 50kg Leopard Ray.. Ask those regulars there and they too would vouch that Bedok Jetty is a good productive fishing spot..

Some anglers practise this 'catch and release' method.. They would release the fish that they caught back into the sea.. Its ok to do that if you hook up a small fish but if you managed to haul up a 6 kg Garoupa, then I say fuck to the catch and release prinicple..

That's what I did when I hooked up a big garoupa few years ago at Pulau Ubin.. One lady asked me kindly to release the fish.. I swiftly say No!

Adultery will stop if people stop fucking around behind their spouse even if you pay money for sex.

Look at the way the guy held the Sting Ray..

I'm sure its already injured its mouth when it swallowed the hook.. No use releasing it back into the sea.. It will die due to its injuries..

Nothing to do with fishing as a hobby. This is aimed at those hypocrites who use letting to accumulate their so call merits but instead is causing more animals to be hunted. There is already one in this thread.

This Uncle is another Bedok Jetty regular.. He can be considered a legend there due to the big fishes he caught in the past.. Most of the time he would kindly share the fishes he had caught with other anglers there.. I ever saw him giving away few medium sized Garoupas to few Malay boys who caught nothing after fishing whole night at Bedok Jetty..
