Duo nabbed minutes after robbing restaurant
KLANG: Police have arrested two men within minutes of them robbing a 24-hour restaurant in Bukit Tinggi with three accomplices.
South Klang deputy police chief Supt Azman Abdul Razak said a team was deployed to the restaurant immediately upon being alerted of the robbery at 3.30am Monday.
“When my men got there, they learnt the whereabouts of the suspects and gave chase in a car.
“Police intercepted a Proton Wira in Taman Sentosa and arrested two men while the three others escaped on foot,” he told reporters at the South Klang police headquarters.
Police seized the car, which had a fake number plate, four helmets, two machetes, several packets of cigarettes, an undisclosed amount of cash and two handphones.
Supt Azman said that initial investigations linked the group to a series of robberies of convenience stores and 24-hour restaurants in the Klang Valley.
“In August, the group is believed to have been involved in more than five cases, of which two were in Petaling Jaya,” he said.
The two being remanded for seven days, aged 22 and 34, have tested positive for opium. One of them has a criminal record for robbery.
Police are tracking down the other three suspects.
