KUALA LUMPUR - The hopes of two men aspiring to start a business selling stolen car air-conditioning compressors were dashed after they were caught in the act.
The men, both in their 30s, who had stolen 85 car air-conditioning compressors worth RM10,000 were arrested on Tuesday at Desa Tun Razak here after their employer saw them stealing on his CCTV recordings.
"We believe they have worked together for some years. They took home several compressors over a period of time with the intention of starting their own business selling the stolen goods," Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh told a press conference here yesterday.
The employer lodged a report on June 28 that compressors produced in his factory had recently gone missing.
ASP Mohan added that police recovered all the stolen compressors stored in a house in Taman Selayang, Batu Caves, after questioning the suspects.
He added that both suspects, who had no criminal record, were remanded under Section 381 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, in another unrelated case, three men believed to be involved in several break-ins in Cheras were arrested on Tuesday at Taman Len Seng.
ASP Mohan said police received a call from a resident alleging that the suspects were trying to break into his home at 3.30pm on Tuesday.
He added that police arrested a 21-year-old parking attendant who attempted to flee when he saw the patrol car that had gone to the scene after receiving the homeowner's call.
"We also found weapons and tools behind the complainant's house. We believe the suspect was using the tools during the break-in attempt," he said
Following the arrest of the first suspect, a 28-year-old salesman who fled to a nearby petrol station while being pursued by police was also apprehended.
Follow-up operations led police to the third suspect in Kampung Lok Yew in Setapak.
Police also recovered a Proton Waja that was reported stolen in Kelana Jaya.
ASP Mohan added that all three suspects had previous criminal records with one of them having 16 police records for break-ins, drug offences and burglary.
All tested positive for methamphetamine
