Drunk engineer to appeal jail term for assault on taxi driver

An engineer sentenced to six weeks' jail on Wednesday for assaulting a cabby is appealing against the sentence.
Tan Yi Wei, 29, who is out on $15,000 bail, had pleaded guilty to hitting Mr Mohydeen Mohammad Hussein, 51, on his face and kicking him on his left arm along Jellicoe Road on Oct 3 last year.
A court heard that Tan boarded the 51-year-old 's cab at the Orchard Towers taxi stand at about 3.30am on Oct 3.
Tan, who appeared to be intoxicated, told the cabby to proceed to Citylights condominium at Jellicoe Road.
