If serving Singapore is the most satisfying bottom line that anyone can have and Ministers expect civil servant to be like that, then why they say Ministers must be paid higher to attract them to the job?

So for them the most satisfying bottom line is the amount in their bank account?

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean has called on government scholars to stay focused on serving the nation.

Mr Teo was speaking at the Economic Development Board's annual scholarship ceremony.

"Remember, when you study, and you work, you're not working just for yourself, or your company, you're working for Singapore and Singaporeans. That's the most important and the most satisfying bottom line that anyone can have. As you leave for your overseas studies, keep an open mind to new perspectives and horizons, but stay focused on why you are there," said Mr Teo.

Ten young Singaporeans received the Economic Development Board scholarship this year which will see them heading to universities in the United States or Europe.

They join the ranks of over 500 scholars who have joined the statutory board.

The Economic Development Board is responsible for attracting investments and growing industry in the country.

Amongst the scholars are Ms Marianne Tan, and Mr Rovik Jeremiah Robert.

"It's a great thing coming to work every day and knowing that some of the business there are because of the work that you've done in this organisation," said Ms Tan.

Mr Robert said: "It's not just about GDP. It's also about creating happiness. When you go to work, you want to be happy about going to work so it's about creating jobs that Singaporeans actually like." CHANNEL NEWSASIA

Some bottom lines are more satisfying than others. Anyway, what has Singapore ever done for me?

Rely on yourself lah. Don't they always wax lyrical about the virtue of self-reliance?

Like i told you, why does a houseowner need to leave his house if he dislikes his guest?

The houseower was duped into buying his 'home' which he does not even have the title after all payment were completed!; plus the landowner, depreciates the intrinsic value of his home by allowing squatters on the landowners property. This was not in the original sale agreement between the house owner & the land owner. ha ha ha ha
