So we have indian muslims who now claim to be bumiputra malays because they are musllims and adopt malay culture, speak malay, wear baju melayu and many are UMNO members, Dr M being the most prominent.

That a Malaysia version of bastardize Malay which is nothing more than a cultural creation. In Indonesia MAlay is an ethnic group along with other ethnic like Javanese, Dayak, Madurese, Baliness etc. It a more authentic one compare to Malaysia.
