Do you guys feel that the topics shown in chinese cinema is rather limited?

'Eye in the Sky' finished watching liao. Good recc!

Piggy girl good performance but she's no Kelly Lin! :(

I upz your points for the recc! Thanks in advance for returning the favor! :D

HK movies are typically swordfighting period sagas, triad or cop shows, but some of them are pretty good.
If you haven't watched this, catch "Eye In The Sky" this afternoon on mediacorp channel 8.
Great cop movie with Simon Yam in a rather unusual role for him.
Their cop movies are not just police chase thief, their themes go much deeper and they usually have a good story about the villians, not just the heroes, which hollywood seldom does.

For Chinese tv and cinema, they can also go back to great stories like Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre, 108 Outlaws From The Marsh, Yang Warriors, Condor Heroes, etc. I could watch stories relating to the first 3 over and over again, whoever the actors or wherever the production. My view is that Hollywood has been poor for a long time, my favoruite movies still remain "Deer Hunter", "The Sting", Godfather I and II, Taxi Driver, etc after all this time. In more recent times, only Shawshank Redemption springs to mind as a great movie.

This 1 is Melayu Lord of the Rings

jw5,

"Eye in the Sky" really quite nice wor.

Finally got past the initial lull and the cui lead actress, Xu Zishan?

Really gripping movie. Must be at least the 3rd time I've watched it, and still watched from beginning to end.
Able to do that with very few Hollywood movies these days.
Lead actress is Kate Tsui.
Supporting actress is Maggie Siu, she won a golden horse for best supporting actress.
Simon got a HK film award best actor award, but he should have got the golden horse too.
An unusual role for him, usually he's the suave hero or suave villian.
Another fave of mine is Running Out Of Time with Andy Lau and Lau Ching Wan.

The latest movie Overheard 2 currently showing on cinema is also not bad

Overheard 1 was shown recently on channel U. Another very good HK movie.
Think I'll wait a few years for Overheard 2 to come on tv. :o

What I don't like about it is that it's a totally new show with new characters played by the same actors, yet still called "2".
The Louis Koo and Daniel Wu characters both died at the end of Overheard 1.

Tell also never mind, by the time it comes on tv, I would have forgotten it. :p
Hahaha.... Few years ago, Johnny To's movies are quite nice actually, but I agreed with Jah, HK should do something diff.....

Chinese movies are plain silly, same as Indian movies, catering for the masses of Chinese and Indians. Nobody with half a brain and intellect watch these movies, but they have to been made to cater for the entertainment of the majority of Chinese and Indians with less than half than a brain and intellect. It's a fair world, I won't begrudge that. If there's a majority has less than half a brain or intellect, they has to be catered to too. People with full brains and intellect won't deprive them of that entertainment. In fact, it's profitable business.

Some historical epics are nice, informative and educational, but most prone to comically ridiculous exaggeration whatever the theme is. I do understand basic Chinese, just that I can't speak or write well.

You still in Stephen Chow's error lah my friend, now the chinese movies are more refined, even Hollywood wanna remake it.

You can always trust Alamaking video posting of classics. Three Kingdoms also got air force helicopters. Even Stephen Chow at his peak couldn't beat that.
