Now, we need to take minimum two trips (one normal bus and one shuttle bus from interchange) or sometimes three trips to reach home.
The introduction of "bus interchange" has inflated our transport by about 30%. If the routes are properly drawn up, we could save 30% of our transport cost and reach our home at shorter time.
Transport Council Chairman, Gerard Ee, should do something. But, he is too busy with NKF, Minister Pay to take care of cummuters...

Those shuttle buses used to be 'half priced' fare.....then they intro the 'townlink' buses and the minimum fare doubled.

some idiots mofo sitting on the ministry of transport is not doing their jobs.

Before there no MRT. Only bus available.
Now public transport expect your to take bus to MRT station take MRT to nearest bus interchange of your destination and expect you tranfer again to bus. So that will be total 3 trip from point A to B.
This is very inefficent but public transport get more fare if you need to transfer few time.

Before Singapore was not that open up so only a few destinations the buses go to. As this red dot developed more and more places open up so don't expect a bus to go from point A to point Z passing through B,C,D......... and so on.

What does the guy mean by "bus interchange"?

Bus interchanges have existed since the beginning of time. If they didn't exist, the bus drivers will be driving round and round in circles. There has to be a starting point and an ending point for all trips right?

If he's referring to bus interchanges with mrt stations in the same location, I don't think that's the cause of higher transport costs. In the past, people would take the main bus to the interchange. If they lived near enough to walk, good. If not, they would take another feeder bus.

Know the difference between 1) Bus Terminal 2) Bus Interchange 3) Bus Depot.

Know the difference between 1) Bus Terminal 2) Bus Interchange 3) Bus Depot.

1. Bus terminal>> end point of the bus trip destination. No many bus stop at that destination.
2. Bus interchange>> many bus route availble at the station and also last stop. Different between terminal and interchange is bus interchange have more bus.
3. Bus depot>> Bus storage/parking/maintenance area.

Thanks a lot bro.

Wah lan eh bus interchange is a necessity leh. No need to do maintenance one meh? Seriously, only a gong cheebye will question the need for an interchange.

In the old days, towns such as Woodlands and Sembawang does not exist. Joker wants to compare old days with right now.

If you live in mature towns(which existed way back in the "old days") near the city limits area like me, you don't face the above issue. Most buses run straight into town. U stay in more ulu destination in those mature estates, at most change bus once.

If U stay far away, then what you expect. That's the reason why they came up with the distance fare thing, so they don need to pay so bloody much every time U change a bus.

Before, you only drank one bottle of milk, or drank whatever your mother had on her breasts. Now you are all grown up and still want to continue to survive on that bottle of milk? Our population has grown, our roads have become wider and expressways, our working population demand quicker, better and comfortable air-con public buses and subways.

You can't have all these at 1960s prices where there were smoky and rickety Hock Lee buses, Tay Koh Yat buses, STC buses and of course the pirate taxis. You can't go and eat in a foodcourt now and demand sarabat stall prices.

This is the reality. Transport industry is heavily dependent on oil - and that has taken a huge chunk of the company's operating cost. Newer and better buses cost lots of money. Bus drivers need a reasonable salary to survive and work well.

Your dream will come true when one of the Tans is elected President, or when the WP become the government. They will dig into the National Reserve goldmine and give you free transport.

i agree. i cannot make out head or tails what xlandjy is trying to argue

.
hahaha.....u forgot the most important point......shareholders need a high ROI.
this is where I think is not acceptable.......
WP is also not talking about free transport.....but about profiteering from public transport.

The question "Do we really need bus interchanges??" begs a sarcastic reply.

Are you dumb?

The moron who asked this question should have a brain transplant

How about other cities similar in size to Singapore where the majority of the population commutes by public transport? I dun think HK as having so many bus interchanges.

The question is, "Do we really need bus interchange??" and not "Do we need so many bus interchanges??"

The public transport system in HK is supported very ably by their system of small feeder buses, which they call "xiao ba".

Without these, they may need interchanges and big feeder buses as well, as those xiao ba go to the most obscure places which the big buses don't.
