The main reasons why WP managed to win Aljunied GRC are the diversity, courage and quality of the candidates.
I don't think WP would have taken any grc if LTK had gone to any other grc. If he had gone to Moulmein or East Coast leaving Sylvia to lead the team in Aljunied, the latter might have lost narrowly and so would Low's team. It took guts to do that. Before the election, I said that was the key for this election. He put all the eggs in one basket and left it to the voters. It turned out to be a masterstroke strategy.
All the WP candidates in Aljunied were university graduates and CSM had qualifications and credentials which matched and even outshone most of the pap candidates. Again LTK was shrewd here. He took the new star, probably the best qualified malay candidate and the best young articulate candidate in Pritam and put them in his grc.
LTK himself is a chinese edcuated teochew born and bred singaporean. He got Sylvia, a middle class english educated lady, CSM a highly qualified non born and bred singaporean who had been away for many years but had impressive work credentials, a young and bright articulate sikh and a young malay university graduate, whose work was mainly helping families, to stand with him in the same grc.
