There were ONLY 2 members in that published Aug 2023 photo but with 5 glasses shown on the supposed 'original' pic.

1. It broke no COV id 19 rules as dining out even back then was allowed even at its strictest level of 5 participants.

2. Never EVER take a pic OUT OF CONTEXT to hurt another.

The Lianhe Zaobao article was MAINLY FOCUSSED on WHO Su Hajin was & IDENTIFIED in pic, & only probably the full frontal pic of him available at that time.

Anyone else in the pic was never a issue, as it is NOT a CRIMINAL OFFENCE to have a dinner with another, more so one that was NOT convicted prior to such a dinner held years ago, with no corporate lawyers or documents present on the table, let alone any SIGNED document.

1. Civil servants and political officeholders must not ask for gifts or favours, especially when they are in a position to influence or affect any decision involving the other party. If it is not possible or it is impractical to decline gifts or meals, officers should declare and account for it according to established processes.



2. For gifts that are less than $50, the officer may be allowed to retain the gift without payment after taking into account considerations such as conflict of interest. For gifts that are $50 or more, an officer may be allowed to retain the gift if he pays its value to the government.



3. In 2023, there were about 3,450 gift declarations made by civil servants and political officeholders. Of these, officers were allowed to retain 60%. About 14% of the declarations were for gifts valued $50 or more. We do not collect data on meal invitations centrally.

Ideals are great,.. but enforcement is another issue. Thousands of dollars are spent hosting dinners, more so upon normal events such as charity, gala, festivals, celebrations & such like WHERE NO gifts were offered, but only mere meals, paid by hosts, and at times, paid even by civil servants where donations were requested that would be FAR more than the cost of a seat on a table of 10.

Shall we engage & HIRE more enforcers at TAXPAYERS expense to enforce costs of mere meals to the many thousands of civil service officers, even at home parties where the cost of a four course dinner can cost beyond $100? Shall the invited civil service officer ask the host for the cost of dinner, with receipts as proven evidences to calculate the costs, & not be culturally & societally offensive to the host?

How does a 15% GST tax to pay for such hires sound like to calculative minded taxpayers?
