Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash does not know what he is talking about because he has absolutely no entrepreneurial experience. He was parachuted in as co-chair of the Entrepreneurship Committee under S'pore's Economic Strategy Review. Dinesh served as a Brigadier General in the SAF before he became Chief Executive of AIC under MOH Holdings, before contesting the last GE. Someone with an "iron rice bowl" has zero knowledge of what entrepreneurs face. How can a lifelong civil servant teach others about the risks of starting a business? Around 80% of retired SAF officers manage to secure civilian employment within 6 months of retirement. I guess almost all are parachuted into the PAP or senior management positions in the Civil Service and Statutory Boards. They are not left to fend for themselves by the govt because their military skills are not valued in the private sector. In other words, these former SAF officers are not able to compete on a level-playing field with civilian jobseekers.
