Difference in BMW 320 and 520

Does any BMW expert here knows the difference between 320 and 520 ?

what does i in 320i and 520i stands for ?

what about XL in 320XL 520XL ?

I know cabroilet means the rooftop can pull down type.

And coupe means 2 door.

Any other BMW terms i need to know ?

XL has the Xenon Lights for headlights. Non-XL is ordinary bulbs.

Both 320 and 520 use the same type of 4 cylinder engine.

i suffix means the car go faster than non i.

How the engineers decided on the 520 model continues to puzzle me. Car's too heavy for 2000cc. Even the 320 model's pick-up is slow compared to some 2000cc Jap cars.
