Delivery rider dies in Hougang accident; lorry driver arrested for drink driving

SINGAPORE - A man understood to be a delivery rider died after an accident with a lorry at Buangkok Green, in Hougang, on Thursday.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, the police said the 54-year-old lorry driver has been arrested for drink driving.

The 45-year-old motorcyclist is a food delivery rider, according to Chinese-language daily Lianhe Zaobao.


The police said they were alerted to the accident in Buangkok Green towards Sengkang East Road at about 8pm on Thursday. According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the accident happened near 10 Buangkok View.

The delivery rider was unconscious when he was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he subsequently died.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Grab probably charge loss to next of kin.pay up or no employment for entire family.

It does not matter whose fault caused the mishsp. Fact is, a drunk driver should not be on the road. He broke the law first and will be charged as such,. No insurance will entertain any claims.

I assume he drove onto a blind spot.

the Cam Car ; dont know why ; also never Speed up ...

I saw the video. It does not matter whose fsult it is. Once you are drunk, its your fault. That is how its treated in the west. The drunk driver should not be on the road.
As for the rider, i assume he is fatigued. Dead tired. Tired people make mistakes. That is why pilots and doctors are not allowed to work over a certain hours .

As a general comments
Most Lorry drivers are mostly barbaric drivers probably they have this thinking their vehicle is at a stronger advantage during a accident
Most delivery riders think that road users have to give way to cater to their job needs.

The worst part is, grab don't really care about the high accident rate of their deliveroos. No CSR( corporate social respondibility) despite many high paying executives on their payroll.
There should be a time limit each rider works everyday. Plus their app shoukd be more ergonomical for riders. Everything should be simplified. You see riders texting while riding sometimes. This is so archaic.
