Happened in Nanking, was an event that occurred during World War II when Japanese forces invaded and occupied the city of Nanjing in China. The event is considered one of the most horrific of the war.

What the Japs did there was nothing compared to what Mao did during the Cultural Revolution.

But it's always easier to focus on an external enemy, real or imagined, than to focus on the enemy within.
