The woman who was killed on Apr 23 at Clementi Avenue 3 after being hit by a double-decker bus and dragged for five metres was the wife of National University of Singapore (NUS) professor Mr Gong Jiangbin.
In an earlier report, 42-year-old Madam Zhang Huirui was crossing the street when an SBS service 78 bus turning left from Commonwealth Avenue West ran over her. She was pronounced dead on the spot.
According to reports in The Straits Times and The New Paper, Mr Gong was inconsolable when he saw his wife's body, which he collapsed in tears next to. Her legs were crushed and her body was mangled in a pool of blood.
His collared purple shirt appeared to be stained wet and his voice was hoarse as he spoke in between sobs to his colleague. Paramedics had to escort him off the road for his safety.
The 41-year-old professor teaches at the NUS Faculty of Science, where he has won several teaching awards.
Mr Gong and his wife have a 10-year-old daughter studying in Nanhua Primary School, and a neighbour described them as a "tight-knit family".
An eyewitness said that the lights had been in Madam Zhang's favour when the accident happened. Her "lower limbs went under the bus first before her body was dragged along."
The bus driver involved in the accident is a 47-year-old Singaporean and has been suspended. Police investigations are ongoing.
