Coronavirus escaped from a laboratory in China, it is almost certain, Minister of Health Roman Prymula (for YES) told deputies on Thursday. He stressed, however, that the virus was certainly not made artificially. According to the minister, he apparently got out of the laboratory on an experimental animal. "It is almost certain that the virus came from a laboratory in China. Not that it was artificially made there, but it escaped because various research was commonly carried out there, based on natural reservoirs, that is, on various bats and the like. On a model animal the virus apparently got out, got on the market and a global catastrophe began, "said Prymula.

There is a lot of evidence for this. The virus is very complicated," the minister said. "If someone created the virus, it would be a genius that I would take off my hat from. The most unpleasant virus has not been here yet," the minister added in response to a question from MP Marian Bojek (formerly SPD).

Speculation that a new type of coronavirus came from a Chinese laboratory appeared in the spring after the outbreak of the pandemic. In mid-April, US President Donald Trump first announced that the United States was trying to find out if the coronavirus came from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

A few days later, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that all available evidence suggested that bats from China were the source of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. She also said the evidence did not suggest that the virus had been artificially modified or even made in a laboratory.

In early May, Trump answered a question from one of the journalists as to whether he saw information that allowed him a "high degree of conviction" about the origin of the virus in the Wuchan laboratory. "Yes, he did." However, he did not give details. Wang Jen-i, director of the Wuchan Institute of Virology, later responded to similar speculations by saying that they had three live strains of coronavirus from bats in their laboratories, but none matched covidu-19.

The thesis that the coronavirus is not of natural origin is held by the Chinese virologist Li Meng-jen, who in September, together with three other colleagues, published an article on this topic on the open Zenodo website. However, according to the AP agency, the article has not been reviewed. All four authors join Stephen Bannon's Government of Law, a US Republican and former chief strategic adviser to President Donald Trump. The virologist also presented her position on the American television channel Fox News.
