Cyclists are the scourge of the road. Even when they are in the wrong, the vehicle drivers also get into trouble. In this case, the bus driver got arrested. Maybe the driver got arrested because he should have been aware of the impact and should have stopped the bus immediately instead of dragging the cyclist for 30 metres but the accident could have not happened if the cyclist had obeyed traffic rules.

Bet you that the cyclist disobeyed the red light (do not cross), just like hundreds of cyclists.

Bus drivers also have families to feed.

A 31-year-old cyclist died in a road accident late on Friday after being trapped under a bus along Loyang Avenue.

The bus driver, 63, has been arrested for careless driving causing death, said the police.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted at about 10.40pm to the accident at the junction of Loyang Avenue and Pasir Ris Drive 1.

SCDF said it used lifting equipment to rescue the cyclist but he was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

The police are investigating the accident.

Responding to queries from The Sunday Times, SBS Transit senior vice-president of corporate communications Tammy Tan said: "We are sorry that this has happened. The bus was travelling straight and about to make a right turn at the traffic junction which was green in its favour when the accident occurred.

"We are trying to get in touch with the cyclist's next-of-kin to extend our deepest condolences and offer our assistance," added Ms Tan.

She also said SBS Transit was assisting the police in their investigations.

Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the cyclist was dragged for about 30m under the bus.

Eyewitnesses saw the bicycle crushed underneath a wheel of the bus, it said.

This is why buses and cars are not the ideal means of transport. They are lethal in the hands of careless drivers.

PMD ride sharing schemes are far safer for everyone and should be implemented asap so that the number of buses on the road can be drastically reduced.

Cyclists are nothing but pests on public roads. How many times do i have to say this.... Singapore roads are not suitable for cycling. When I see public buses slowing down for the cyclists, i feel sorry for them. Its much easier for cars to overtake or cut outside to the middle lane a little, but not so easy for the buses.

Fucking cyclists all have death wishes.

Seldom we have such cases 40 or 50 years ago. Sinkieland is tiny but flooded with too many morons. Too many cars n buses. Tats the consequence.

how to expect guys above 50 to tahan?....
most of them work 10 hours minimum a day, some even 14,

Lots of cyclists hogging the first lane on the road, sometimes an entire convoy of them.

They shouldn't be banned, but drivers should be granted total legal indemnity should any 'accidents' happen to those cyclists. The cyclists should also be warned that they cycle on the roads at their own risk, and no one should be held responsible for their well-being.
