The mortality rates are little different from the seasonal flu or dengue mortality rates. 0.2% for the younger chaps is no different from flu. 3% to 8% for slightly older chaps is also no big deal as many of these old codgers would either die of chronic diseases or wind up as road kill anyway.

Let me tell you this whole saga is driven by politics rather than science. The politicians have no choice but to issue dire warnings and impose quarantines because if they don't they'll be blamed for every single death that occurs regardless of the circumstances or the age of the victim.
It's the same in all areas of life when something new comes along. That is why PMDs received such a hostile reception despite the fact that it is cars that kill the majority of pedestrians. However the politicians escape unscathed from the road accident death toll figures because cars pre-date present day politics so being run over by a car is just one of those things that happens in life. Besides no driver is going to campaign for measures that will affect themselves.

Common symptoms of covid are coughs and difficulty breathing and need ventilators.
That's why none died in SG because we have enough facilities. Not the case for early days Wuhan, rural Italy, Iran, UK etc.
The common systems of covid are so mild that most people don't even bother going to a doctor. The few that end up on ventilators are the ones whose lungs were already shot in the first place.
Not so for flu. It invariably causes fever, aching joints and often leads to bronchitis and pneumonia too. Perhaps you have not experienced the flu. I have and I can tell you it felt like death. The second time I got it I was saved by Tamiflu or things could have turned out differently.

I honestly don't understand why so much effort is put into containing or preventing pandemics when they are actually the perfect solution to the issue of climate change.
There are too many people on this earth and the figure is unsustainable. Nature has a way of moderating many factors and the human population was kept to manageable numbers for hundreds of thousands of years by the very forces that we are now trying to neutralize.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — Sixty per cent of Malaysia’s 65 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) deaths involve those aged 60 and older, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham disclosed today.
The elderly and those with chronic diseases typically experience more severe symptoms of Covid-19, which require intensive care or respiratory support.
“If you look into the data we have today, 60 per cent of the death involved those aged 60 years and above.
“Death from the Sri Petaling tabligh cluster is at 30 per cent, while those with comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension and heart diseases the percentage is about 75 per cent. Their symptoms are much worse,” he said.
Many of the Covid-19 deaths reported so far involve those with hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, and cardiac issues.
Previously, Dr Noor Hisham revealed that two age groups, those aged 26-30 and 56-60, accounted for the highest number of new Covid-19 cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said it is because people in these two groups tend to move about more than others.
He suggested their higher risks of infection could be because some were students who ignored the movement control order (MCO) while older patients were likely to be heads of households who may leave their homes for supply runs.

Based upon the latest data all these percentages should be reduced by a factor of at least 10 or perhaps even 100.
