Couple Arrested After Woman Found Dead In Woodlands Flat

Police found a 27-year-old woman dead in a Woodlands Avenue 9 flat on Monday after receiving a call at about 9.30am.

A 36-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were later arrested in relation to the case.

The New Paper understands the suspects are a Singaporean married couple who were friends with the dead woman.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said paramedics pronounced the woman, who was found lying on the mattress in a bedroom with no visible fatal injuries, dead at the scene.

While the police have not classified the case as yet, they have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.

A neighbour said the people in the unit kept mostly to themselves. He added that the couple would occasionally smile and say "hi" when they met in the common corridor.

She often showed up to work covered in bruises. In February, the waitress had an injury on her left ear that required stitches.

Ms Annie Ee Yu Lian, 27, was found dead in a flat on the third storey of Block 878, Woodlands Avenue 9, on Monday morning.

A married couple, who lived with Ms Ee in the flat, were later arrested in connection with the case.

The police confirmed that it was murder on Tuesday evening.

A manager at Hot Tomato restaurant at the nearby Causeway Point shopping mall said Ms Ee, who used to work there, would try to cover up her bruises with concealer or by wearing a cap.

She would evade questions about her injuries but later told a colleague that the female flatmate had beaten her.

A couple has been charged with the murder of waitress Annie Ee Yu Lian.

Tan Hui Zhen, 31 and Pua Hak Chuan, 35, are accused of killing her in their flat at Block 878 Woodlands Avenue 9 at around 9.40am on Monday.

The pair appeared calm in the dock when their charges were read out to them.

They will be back in court on April 22.
