Whistleblower's letter to The Straits Times Forum, published on 11 June 2013

Take action against errant agents helping foreign students enrol
AS SOMEONE who has tutored and helped foreign students enrol in government schools, I am aware of many similar cases of students being asked to pay a huge sum of money to be admitted to a school by agents ("Woman cheated couple of $10k school 'donation'"; last Tuesday).
Many schools prefer to work directly with agents they are familiar with, rather than liaise with the foreign students and their parents.
Some agents claim to have special access to the school's principals.
In some cases, students do not even pass the admission tests, nor do the principals meet the students and parents, before granting admission.
The schools' representatives are obviously aware that these agents are earning a huge commission, or "donation" for their work.
The Ministry of Education must investigate and uncover all such cases of cheating or bribery, and take action against all involved.
