Whistleblower's letter to The Straits Times Forum, published on 11 June 2013

Take action against errant agents helping foreign students enrol

AS SOMEONE who has tutored and helped foreign students enrol in government schools, I am aware of many similar cases of students being asked to pay a huge sum of money to be admitted to a school by agents ("Woman cheated couple of $10k school 'donation'"; last Tuesday).

Many schools prefer to work directly with agents they are familiar with, rather than liaise with the foreign students and their parents.

Some agents claim to have special access to the school's principals.

In some cases, students do not even pass the admission tests, nor do the principals meet the students and parents, before granting admission.

The schools' representatives are obviously aware that these agents are earning a huge commission, or "donation" for their work.

The Ministry of Education must investigate and uncover all such cases of cheating or bribery, and take action against all involved.

Buying of school places not allowed: MOE

WE REFER to Mr Lim Soo Chuan's letter on private agents offering education services to international students ("Take action against errant agents helping foreign students enrol"; Tuesday).

The Ministry of Education (MOE) would like to state unequivocally that the buying of school places is not allowed. All school principals are aware that under no circumstances are they to solicit or accept donations in exchange for school places.

The MOE does not work with nor endorse any student recruitment agents or agents offering preparatory courses or other services to international students wishing to join our education system.

If members of the public encounter any incidents of perceived buying of school places, please report them to the MOE with the specific details. We will investigate and take the necessary action.

Lim Huay Chih (Ms)
Director, School Planning and Placement Division
Ministry of Education

Wa..... Ministry of Education got skills to investigate corruption..........

CPIB replaced by School Planning and Placement Division?

Academic performance is not the only thing schools are looking for.

Other than $$$$$ if students are strong in sports but a mediocre in academics. You will probably have a better chance of getting into these schools.

Why didn't Lim Huay Chih on behalf MOE sue Lim Soo Chuan, for that is a serious allegations?? & for it to be published in the "shit" press, leaving, behind rank, name & IC number...if there is smoke, there must be fire...

Corruption didn't trickle down to schools.

Corruption permeates each and every one of Singapore's public institutions. Schools are merely doing it on a smaller scale compared to various stat boards, GLCs and ministries.

Being surprised by this fact indicates that the person has been thoroughly hoodwinked by the official narrative that Singapore has little or no corruption, the cleanest government that money can buy.

Surely, there is also some ingrained naivety regarding schools and educators: since they are in the noble profession of educating the youth, surely they are also people with moral integrity who can do no wrong. This is a silly assumption.

"Lee Kuan Yew received from HPL a total of $416,252 whilst Lee Junior got $643,185 in discounts. All the purchases amounted to more than $10 million and were carried out without mortgages and loans.

Lee Kuan Yew's entire family was in on the purchases. Daughter Lee Wei Ling, a medical doctor in a government hospital; sister Lee Kim Mon; and his two other brothers Freddy and Dennis; Kwa Kim Li, a niece of Lee; and Gloria Lee, Lee's sister in law, all bought the condos at hefty discounts. Wei Ling bought two apartments at Nassim Jade and was reported to have sold one off for a tidy profit. Again, all these transactions were carried out without the approval of the shareholders of HPL.

Fuck Lee Kuan Yew and Son! Finally the dam can't prevent tell tale leaking signs from scrutiny. Tell me about the admin managers in schools who are getting fat from school uniform and shoe vendors that they chose to be given a contract to provide service within the school. Not to mention the external extra curriculum instructors.

I am not going to fault them as Lee and Family with Sun Ho and Kong Hee have been providing the role modelling.
