Coroner says uncertain how dead man sustained broken ribs and 'minced meat' liver

THE coroner inquiry into the death of construction worker Mayalagu Raju, 31, could shed little light on how he sustained nine rib fractures and a liver that looked like "minced meat".

After hearing the evidence gathered by police, State Coroner Chay Yuen Fatt said on Tuesday that it remains uncertain how the Indian national sustained the extensive cardiac and liver injuries that caused his death.

On Monday, the inquiry heard that Mr Mayalagu's body was found lying on a hard court at the junction of Tuas South Avenue 4 and 5 at 2.30pm on Feb 4 last year by a police officer. The cop had come to check on a group of foreign workers gathered some distance away and pointing to the hard court.

Photographs of the scene were taken. As no identification papers were found on Mr Mayalagu, he was identified by his thumbprint. Before investigators from Criminal Investigation Department arrived, a heavy downpour set in.
