Two young people who had never taken drugs before died after consuming Ice at a home, a coroner’s inquiry heard on Jan. 20, as reported by The Straits Times.
A young man was found dead in his bedroom, while a young woman he had invited over was pronounced dead later that same day after being found unconscious in another room.

Their exact ages, names and addresses cannot be reported due to a gag order covering all identifying details in the case.
According to Zaobao, the young man was 18, and the girl was 16.
What police found at the home
Officers found the young man dead in his bedroom in a three-storey house, with rigor mortis already beginning to set in.
According to ST, he had blunt injuries to his head and face. Around him were white powdery substances, green capsules and vaping devices.
In another bedroom, officers found a young woman unconscious, together with a third person.
The woman was taken to Changi General Hospital but died later that day.
There were no details on who discovered them or on the identity and condition of the third person.
As for the pair, investigators said they were unable to establish whether they knew each other before the incident.

They did not appear to share mutual friends, and police could not confirm that they had met before the day of the incident.
Despite the injuries found on the man, police said they do not suspect foul play.
Both individuals had voluntarily consumed Ice, also known as methamphetamine, which was detected in their bodies during autopsies.
Drug use documented on phone
According to Zaobao, text messages showed that the man had obtained an unknown amount of Ice and intended to sell it.
He had invited the woman to his home so they could take the drug together.
Messages showed both admitted they had never used drugs before and were discussing methods to consume Ice.
He booked a private-hire car to bring the woman to his house. Once there, they took the drug.

Injuries linked to ICE
Police said the man’s blunt injuries were consistent with known side effects of Ice, which can cause extreme agitation and uncontrolled movements during intense states of euphoria, ST reported.
This could explain how he sustained injuries without the involvement of another person.
The man’s bedroom was on the second floor of the house. His brothers were on the third floor, while a domestic helper stayed on the first floor.
None of them noticed the woman entering the house that day.
An autopsy on the man confirmed amphetamines and Ice in his system. The amount of Ice detected was at a fatal level, according to the report.
The woman’s autopsy also found similar drugs, as well as ketamine. However, the report did not clearly state that the quantity found in her body was fatal.
Because of this, the coroner has directed investigators to obtain further clarification on the exact cause of her death.

Youth drug abuse remains a concern
Although Singapore’s overall drug situation remains largely stable, authorities say troubling patterns are emerging among young drug abusers, according to an annual report by CNB.
Arrests of first-time drug users under 20 rose by 38 per cent.
Methamphetamine remained the most frequently abused drug in 2024, followed by heroin and cannabis.
More than half of those newly arrested for cannabis use were under 30, pointing to an increasing acceptance of cannabis among younger people.
