They met through a WhatsApp chat group in April last year and got together a month later.
Despite knowing she was just 14, Muhammad Sali Ifwat Zainodin had sex with his underage girlfriend three times.
Their relationship was found out a year later after the girl became pregnant and suffered a miscarriage.
Here comes the twist: The child was not his, but her previous boyfriend's.
And now he, too, will be punished for having sex with her.
Yesterday, Muhammad Sali Ifwat, 21, was jailed 18 months.
The girl's other boyfriend, Izzul Islam Abdul Razak, 18, is expected to be back in court next month.
Muhammad Sali Ifwat met the girl, who cannot be named due to a gag order, sometime in April last year - the same month that Izzul Islam broke up with her.
A month later, Muhammad Sali Ifwat got together with the girl.
Sometime between May and July last year, they met near the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority Building and went to a nearby HDB block where they had unprotected sex at a staircase.
They met and had sex two more times during the same period - once at an HDB staircase in Marymount estate and on the other occasion, at the staircase of a multi-storey carpark at Sims Drive.
The second man, Izzul Islam, texted the girl in February and they met at a library in Woodlands on Feb 17 before heading to a nearby park. They later had sex in a toilet for the handicapped there.
BLEEDING
On May 11, she suffered severe cramps and heavy vaginal bleeding and was taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital by her mother. She was diagnosed to have suffered a miscarriage and the police were informed.
Last week, Muhammad Sali Ifwat was convicted of three counts of having sex with an underage girl, while Izzul Islam was convicted of one similar charge.
Yesterday, Muhammad Sali Ifwat, who was unrepresented, said in mitigation he had spoken to the girl's family and was told to take responsibility by marrying the girl when she comes of age.
He added that if he were to be jailed, he would have to pay back a $7,000 bond to Cisco, as he had recently started working for the security firm.
But District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said the court had to protect young girls from such acts, even if consent was given.
The judge added that Muhammad Sali Ifwat was also older and more mature than the girl, and that financial hardship as a result of the sentence was not a mitigating factor.
Izzul Islam is expected to be back in court on Dec 3 for sentencing.
The maximum penalty for having sex with an underage girl is 10 years' jail with fine.
Jail for man who sexually abused friend's son
Out of jail and without a roof over his head, his friend took pity on him by letting him stay in his home.
But the ex-offender betrayed the goodwill and sexually abused his friend's seven-year-old son on three occasions.
The man's heinous acts had such an impact that the boy later asked his younger sister to perform the same sordid act on him.
Yesterday, the 56-year-old perpetrator, whom we shall call Nicholas, was jailed six years for his crimes.
He had been released from prison in 2009 after an earlier eight-year jail term for drug offences.
Nicholas then worked as a stall assistant at his friend's roti prata stall.
Knowing that Nicholas had nowhere else to stay, the friend allowed him to stay with his family in their HDB flat.
SEX ACTS
In December that year, Nicholas was alone in the flat with his friend's son.
He approached the boy and took him into a bedroom, took off the boy's shirt and made the boy perform a sex act on him.
Nicholas later gave the boy $5 and warned him to keep quiet about the incident.
Nicholas made the boy perform the same act on two other occasions in January 2010. He moved out that same month.
In mid-2013, the boy asked his younger sister to perform oral sex on him.
Their parents found out and informed the police and Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Nicholas had previously been convicted for cheating, housebreaking, extortion and drugs offences since the 1970s.
Last month, he pleaded guilty to one count of sexually penetrating the boy without his consent, with two other similar charges taken into consideration for sentencing.
"He (your friend) trusted you and allowed you into his home with his family," said District Judge Jasvender Kaur.
"You grossly abused his trust and committed this serious offence against his son who was then a child of seven years."
Nicholas could have been jailed up to 20 years and fined.
