You are choosing the worst example because NZ is a sitting duck. It could be invaded in less than a week by just about anyone.
It has no air force, no navy and and army so weak that it would never be able to hold ground.
If Singapore was in the same state it would have ceased to exist as an independent nation a long time ago.
