WP also have their own whip, so where is the independence then?

NO independence from its own party whip for sure. Which candidate can claim to be independant from its party direction?? Probably Prof Zeng since he does not have a party. What matters is independance from the ruling party which is destroying the country.

The govt builds the country, not destroy it. Thats why we have very low unemployment now.
WP gave us sex scandals, plagiarism, chaos, etc. They have nothing good to offer the people.

How would you know?
Based on your definition of independence, Png will also not be independent then. Are you saying then that anyone who belongs to a party will then not be independent?

Independent thinking as a manisfestation of intellect is different from independence of political will. I said before that I've no doubt DC has indepdendent thoughts. But when it comes to the crunch, the party line will always be held no matter what (unless the whip is lifted but then you vote against your party at your own risk).

So yes, as long as you're with a political party, you've no free political will, at least I don't think I'll see it here in Singapore. Of course, within the confines of your party, they will discuss and debate but once they're facing out, it's the party line.

So indeed Desmond can be an independent thinker then.
Through the past few decades, there are always indepedent thinking MPs who are not afraid to air their views in parliament contrary to what teh govt wants. Didn't you watch parliament?

Of course there were. But you see Mr. Kinana, independent thinking as an intellectual ability can only do so much for the people. If your MP very tokong, very independent thinking and always argue during parliament, then when it comes to voting, he bo bian has to vote along party line or worst, abstain. How do you think people feel? Why do you think people keep saying need to hv opposition in parliament as a check-and-balance?

You get it, dear?

Yes I have watched the wayangs. And yes, the shows had gone on for a few decades but when it came to voting, every PAP MP was afraid of the whip except on very rare occasions when a brave soul like TCB broke the monotony.
