whether christmas start as a pagan festival is beside the point. christmas is now laud as christian festival, where believers flock to the churches for service and everywhere in the christian world the stage act of JC born in a barn/stable and visit by three wise men from the east are being act in churches and elementary schools all over the western world. So in my book, christmas is a christian festival.
so as a non christian who dont have a "christian" name, i see no reason why i should celebrate christmas and participate in gift giving. do christian celebrate hari raja? so christmas is just an excuse to spend $$ and get drunk. i rather save the money and spend it on CNY where i too can get stuff and get drunk.

The reason why Christmas was celebrated by christains and non christains is because many company around the world using that festival to con ppl to spend money by promoting it . Every where u go they will remind u it's time to spend money ..on food and gift .

I had a police colleage friend, devout Buddhist wearing Buddha pendant. Rich man's son, lived in a bungalow and drove an RX7, signed on police only because he was frightened about army training. He never failed to celebrate Christmas eve every year with a big drinking and feasting party at one of the posh hotel restaurants FOC for us.
Vesak Day, he said he wasn't interested, too boring, let the elderlies settle it. :p

because christmas is painted as a " happening " and cool festival then vesak day by most company . try waliking down orchard road on christmas and you know what i mean . if those buddhist " repackage " their religion and allow and promoting drinking and spending money , im sure they will get more " members " . now buddisum only target those long haired angmo hippy wanabes ....who think that mediation is cool while smoking weeds .
