U.S. F35 fighter jets use Chinese 3D printers and are not afraid of Chinese sanctions?

According to the US Department of Defense News website, April 7, the ground crew of the US Marine F-35B Lightning II patrol carrying the amphibious assault ship The Hornets in the Asia-Pacific region proudly displayed the latest 3D printed aircraft parts. As everyone knows, this is actually the result of a Chinese-made 3D printer.

The US Navy's "Apis" amphibious assault ship is carrying more than a dozen F-35B "Lightning" fighter jets of the landing team VFMA-121 squadron in Asia-Pacific. This is the world's first five-generation stealth fighter that is actually deployed. It also has a short-range/vertical take-off and landing function, and the first overseas deployment was selected in the Seventh Fleet. The intention of the display is obvious.

However, on April 7, one of the F-35B's door cards was broken. As a brand-new fighter, poor spare parts, as a matter of course, must contact with the United States, air a new door to form over, at the latest a week, and very expensive.

The crew of the ship’s ground crew took the initiative and took out a new 3D printer. They downloaded the drawing of the plastic buckle from the Internet and printed one directly. They could actually use it. Not only speed but also cost savings. Never worry about spare parts shortage again! This is the first time in actual deployment that components have been solved through 3D printing. To this end, the U.S. military news website has specially issued special articles to show this, and the ground staff took this part to pose in front of the F-35B.

and many more! The sharp-eyed Chinese netizens suddenly discovered that the tall 3D printer displayed in the photo is a little familiar! Although the U.S. military photography officer with a strong self-esteem had done a virtual process, a close look at it was actually a “dreamer” type high-precision dual-nozzle 3D printer produced by a company in Zhejiang Province, China named “Flashlight Technology”! Online shopping is only 6,000 yuan! Support 16 language operations, stupid operation without learning threshold!

Combining the current trade wars and the embargo on science and technology, it seems particularly significant.

However, the use of Chinese-made mechanical and electrical products by the U.S. military is not isolated. In the past, the U.S. Marine Corps also tested a well-known four-rotor UAV in China. Many of the U.S. military first aid kits were also made in china.

Is the US military not afraid of the embargo?

In fact, the U.S. military purchases these Chinese mechanical and electrical products and technology products, not because they cannot make it out.

For example, 3D printers, the top three in the world are all in the United States.

In the first place, U.S. 3D systems, with an operating revenue of USD 513 million in 2013, led the industry in SLA photo-curing technology, and SLS selective laser sintering technology, ranging from aerospace, medical, automotive, to construction and consumer products.

In the second place, Stratasys of the United States is a competitor of the former, with a turnover of 484 million US dollars in 2013, focusing on FDM fused deposition technology, and Polyjet photosensitive resin injection technology.

Third, the United States Exone, with an operating income of US$40 million in 2013, is mainly engaged in metal additive manufacturing. All are industrial-grade products in the automotive, medical, and aerospace fields.

After the fourth, it was Germany Voxeljet, Germany EOS, Germany Comcept Laser, Switzerland ARcamAB and so on.

There is only one reason why the US military procures Chinese companies' products - cheap! Once there is a problem with supply, the U.S. military, as well as Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the United States, have a large number of suppliers that are optional.

Therefore, China has a long way to go! When the people of the world are inseparable, it is really powerful! (Author's signature: Mei Hongmei Naval Learning Station)
