China now world's number two economy
Posted: 30 July 2010 2003 hrs

BEIJING - China has moved ahead of Japan to become the world's second-largest economy, a senior central bank official said in an interview published Friday.

Yi Gang, a vice-governor of the People's Bank of China and also the head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), did not explain how he had arrived at the figures, according to the comments posted on the SAFE website.

"China is actually now already the world's second-largest economy," Yi said in an interview with China Reform magazine.

China has powered out of the global crisis on the back of a stimulus package worth 586 billion dollars and state-backed bank lending, with its economy growing 10.3 percent in the second quarter and 11.1 percent in the first half.

China's gross domestic product in the first six moths stood at 17.284 trillion yuan, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. That comes to 2.5324 trillion dollars, using the central bank's average monthly exchange rates.

Japan is due to release its first-half GDP figure in mid August.

But the general population still living in 3rd world standard unlike Japan. The rich elites benefited the most.

Accept minerals, China shd be No. 1 in everything, based on its population.

Yeah, big deal? 1,300m population economy overtake Japan 120m population, big deal? Still no match for and long way behind US 300m population, big deal? Stop comparing to US and Japan and make a fool of China-self. Get real and compare to India instead. At least that's comforting good deal a good way ahead.

Singapore number 1 super talented indispensable ministars pay.
Effectiveness and efficiency?
Hehehe.

In the near future, Japan may well become a slave of China.

Its economy can no longer pick up and even if so it is only a negligible rejuvenation (meaning it could never be like it was in the 70s and 80s), and its social and economic problems are worsening.

haha, i rather eat japanese food than ... poison china food.hahaaa...

It is also heartening to know that reemerging nationalism had made some Japanese companies in China relocate overseas.

Even if the anti-Japanese protests were orchestrated by the state it also shows China's strength - that China does not fear the absence of Japanese companies and is indifferent to their departure as other corporations would take their place when they're gone.

And also, even though I didn't read the cheow's dog post but nobody in the world cares about the insignificant renegade province and its people as they are all worthless rebellious deviants against their superior that is China.

Horse don't know own face long. Which idiot country would claim to be rich when it's 1,300m earns significantly less than the US 300m population. Only China. Yah, rich. Congrats. Stop sending coolies and prostitutes here. I'm ethnic Chinese. I feel disgraced.

People just don't get it. Child labour is rampant in China. Indentured labour is the mainstay of the economy and slave labour is revealed every now and then.

China and India has a long way to go. I have absolutely no respect for the leaders of these 2 countries. The South East Asian countries, the tigers and places like South Africa are streets ahead.

Why so many Japanese cars in China? Not just cars, every else too--Japanese.
On the other hand, the only product seen substantially in Japan is China prostitues.
