anyone remember your 70s and 80s childhood where our parents used to buy those color plastic piggy bank?
anyone got a photo of it. want to show to the small kids.
try to goggle..but all i can find is modern pig.

I remember in the 60's Chung Khiaw Bank providing metal piggy banks . Actually not pigs but different animals like Rhinocerous,...etc.

during my childhood plastic was not invented yet, piggy banks were made of alabaster in the shape of pig and painted outside :(

Mine was the safe...i use hair pin to dig for the $10 notes inside...ha ha ha & fish out the money to buy toys...kept that for years..sigh!..threw away my Goofy, Donald Duck...SCB coin box collection, plus all the bank ones...they make history today..even my old CKB metail safe coin box...it aged...so threw away.

I remember they were darker colored with a coin slot on top & at the bottom there was a cover with a locking mechanism. Even by today's standards those old piggy banks were quality products.

I found reference to these old Chung Khiaw piggy banks from another site http://thelongnwindingroad.wordpres...airy-tale-like-mansion-that-was-mount-sophia/

This person was obviously also impressed by these piggy banks
" You could choose a lion elephant or sky scraper as piggy bank. The piggy bank was made of a brass material"

Mine was also a safe :D

Although the bank staff had the key to open the lock. You could also open it using some nail file or screw driver:o

modern 20s are very lucky.they have camera/video to record their childhood memory.

our...got to base on memory...70s/80s camera only for the rich.
mine time...casement national aircon already kpkb...neighbour already thumb up.knn...now inverter aircon..is so common.

I remembered they were real heavy and had a red felt material bottom.
When it became Uob one of the piggy banks was a plastic space shuttle/ silver jet with supersonic saver theme.
All these before the posb postage stamps saving schemes.

Yes I remember the felt material. The piggy banks were very solid & reflected the quality one commonly found during those times unlike today where almost everything seems to be made of plastic. You will also find the lack of quality among our leaders;) The newer generation of elites really can't make it.

I really miss the good old days:o

You guys are noobs. I used these for depositing my savings.

Ahh!, that was when I started learning to be mischievous, learning to break into things, steal the contents & seal them back, like new...hair pin will do...it all begun with fishing from the front slot...& like I had said..started a 'career' into breaking into things..creatively... ha ha ha ha

The Post Office was where I started my savings, with the hunting of any Mint stamps I can find & paste them on the card & bring to the POST OFFICE savings bank at the P.O.. Chung Khiaw bank was my first commercial bank account, started with that Pig Bank which I disliked & opted for the safe..until CKB had a bank run & merged with Da Hwa ...UOB...kept that account, till this day, closed my POSB, when it merged with DBS!!

The kids hardly save today...the savings in the coin box was the surplus after taking out to buy comics, books, toys, like Matchbox cars, Revell or Airfix..etc. Many of us started a lifetime of savings...

But..hardly save today...:p
