When S'porean Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians express fear of economic displacement, it is genuine anxiety over identity and socio-economic mobility. Labelling these fears simply as xenophobia overlooks the nuanced realities of globalisation. When 9 out of every 10 newly created jobs go to foreigners, it is reverse discrimination at its worst. The PAP must be able to open honest, mature dialogues regarding immigration thresholds and local demographic balances w/o compromising social harmony.
