Lim Boon Heng asks residents to support PAP 'underdog'
By Grace Chua
campaigning at Hougang SMC
OUTGOING minister Lim Boon Heng turned up in Hougang yesterday to lend support to Mr Desmond Choo, the People's Action Party's (PAP) candidate there.

His presence appeared to be a bid to increase PAP firepower in the opposition-held Single Member Constituency, which has been held by Workers' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang since 1991.

Mr Low has moved to head the WP team contesting in Aljunied GRC, and his protege, Mr Yaw Shin Leong, 34, hopes to succeed him as MP.

Mr Lim, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office who is retiring from politics this year, said Mr Choo, 33, had 'a chance, but we are still the underdogs'.

'Please give Desmond a chance. We think we've picked a good person for Hougang and he can get things done for people in Hougang,' said Mr Lim.

He said he had strong personal ties to the neighbourhood, having grown up in Punggol and gone to schools there.

Mr Choo, who is deputy director of the NTUC's youth development unit, said the reception on the ground had been 'very encouraging'.

'Residents came up to me and said, 'It's going to be tough, but you don't give up'. So this is what we're going to do. We're never going to give up until the last day of campaigning,' he said.

'The last hour,' Mr Lim interjected, smiling.

Another classic misreading of the ground, sending in one Teochew after another.
This Perpetual Minister Without Portfolio should find something real to do and not go about messing up his colleagues.

That is the big issue with PAP, they think they are not sure.
How can we trust their judgement when they choose someone who only say
I don't know to be our MP.
I hope marine parade resident tell PAP that we cannot condone your choice
Even though it is 1 bad choice out of 5 and we have to pay her 15K.

They send in someone who had been collecting salaries from the taxpayers hiding in the PMO for 30 yrs doing almost "fark off"; just because he is Teochew?

I heard that for an MP, if you serve 2 term, you get paid until you died.
I like to confirm if this is true.
Why do we need 87 MP to serve such a small countries.
With the advancing technology, we should be using less people...

In 2006 LBH went to help LHL at AMK with his NTUC entourage. He reported back estimate about 85% votes. You know the eventual result, the famous 66.6%. Also in 2006 GCT went to help Eric Low in Hougang. LTK increased his margin from 55% to 63%. Eric Low was helped into early retirement from politics.

If they are really serious in taking Hougang back from the WP, they should put in candidates much more bankable over the years, Heng Chee How, Low Saik Meng & now this Desmond whosebarrelismissing does not cut the cake!. Low Saik Meng did an admirable job in Hougang, but his masters did not give him the full support...their previous track records there wasn't that good either.

Sending in the clown like lim beh heng..cuts no ice!...only deepen the wound!!
