The case
IN 2007, Mr Leslie Ang sued Capitol Gravure Industries (CGI), which sent him to Indonesia as commissioner of its subsidiary.
He sought about $2 million for his six months in jail, including his legal fees, loss of income and losses suffered by his own company. Mr Ang, represented by lawyer Tan Liam Beng, said CGI had agreed to fully indemnify him for damages, costs and expenses incurred during his stint in jail.
But CGI said the indemnity does not cover losses or damages from criminal proceedings, brought about by his own wrongdoing. After 11 days of trial, CGI agreed to pay Mr Ang $400,000.
General manager Jack Lee said it made 'commercial sense' to settle.
Mr Ang said: 'I'm totally happy. I've cleared my name.'
