FRESNO, Calif. - Police were called to a traffic collision early Wednesday morning, but they did not expect what they found.

A car was on the roof of an apartment building in Fresno, Calif.

Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle was going too fast, hit some sort of raised area and went airborne.

"There are some tire tracks right behind me. We've studied them and we see that they are on a bit of a berm. It appears that they climbed the berm, the car begins to go airborne, strikes a boulder and a tree stump that further lifts the car airborne and launched it upon the roof about 10 feet behind it," Fresno Police Lt. Anthony Martinez said.

No one in the apartment was injured.

Some residents thought the whole thing was a prank.

"At first I thought it was a prank, like you've been punked or something. I thought somebody lowered the car on the house 'cause that's not something you see every day," Jeanell Ricks, a witness, said.

Police arrested a 26-year old man a short distance away. Among other things, he faces charges of driving a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was removed with a crane.
