The difference in this case is that she did not use her fake MBA to secure the job. She used her genuine degree from the extremely prestigious University of Mumbai.

Using a fake MBA to embellish her CV is still an ethical breach (and punishable by law in many countries), even if the MBA wasn't under consideration by her employer.

No different from an academic falsely claiming to be a Nobel laureate in his CV even if the position didn't depend on it.

It's all about integrity and honesty.
