I remember that guy that was killed at the Arcade. He was said to carry a bag full of money every day over from Batam to change with the money-changers there.
Many people carry large sums of money with them. This type of money cannot see sunlight. I know someone who carried 3 times that amount into S'pore without being detected. Belonged to soccer syndicate.
he is smart to return the money, keeping it might end him in prison. how can you lose so much money in a taxi, they might have 1.1 million in cash, they are still third world citizen.
Some are rich like Thugsin who conned Ho Jinx a few billions sg $....
So much money means money laundering.......... in MBS or RWS
Change $ into chips n couple of hours later cash out requesting casino to issue mgr check... with check, can claim the amount was won in casino. Bring back money to Thighland and the money smell as sweet as roses.

That explains why the Thai couple, reported the missing bag (of cash) through a friend.
I believe there are individuals in almost every country, who carry large sums of cash, most probably because they transacted and/or obtained cash not from open market transactions.
This Sinkie must be daft. He must be in the 60.1%.
Which brings me to sound it out to fucktard like you that this Sinke is SO DAMN DAFT that he could not figure who drove him to the point that he got to carry on driving his cab way pass retirement age!
It's not stated in this thread's first post, but the ST report quoted the cabbie as saying that he was sure there was at least $200K in the bag.
Not saying that he wouldn't have returned it if he knew the actual amount, but just wondering what he would have done if he had counted it and discovered how much it was......................
Not casting doubt on the cabbie but it should able to identify the cab because of the tracker. They might not be able to recover the money but they would know which cab it was. These trackers were built not only improve productivity and customer convenience but for the safety of the cabbies themselves who might have to ply their trade at night and remote locations.
YOu read my thought too. The cabby felt it was impossible to take the million dollar for his own because he will be found out in a matter of time. Given his age, going to jail or having his face on newspaper will damage his family members. He might think the money are "dirty" or probably stolen from someone by the couple, better not take the rap for this too. The best option is to return the money to his HQ, get some praises, wait there for the anxious couple to arrive and expect some big "tips" thereafter. It is the best strategy.
