BYD is broke

So chicons lands EVs are better than Tesla's? I mean aside from the rusts problems..

Definitely. The build quality is on par or better than the Germans. The EV's that is.
There may be some failures just as in any other makes and if it's due to design issue, there will be a recall, just as in other makes.

A class action lawsuit in Australia initiated against Tesla in February this year is gaining momentum as around 10,000 Tesla owners in the country have registered interest in the lawsuit for claimed issues including phantom braking, battery issues and misleading Autopilot claims, reported ABC News.

The class action lawsuit alleges that Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles “have a propensity to autonomous engage Automatic Emergency Braking [Autonomous Emergency Braking, or AEB] abruptly in inappropriate circumstances, leading to a risk of collisions,” Drive quoted law firm JGA Sadler as saying.

An owner of a Model 3 allegedly experienced sudden braking on the highway, which resulted in a truck nearly colliding into the rear of the Tesla, and the unintended braking has occurred to this vehicle owner on numerous occasions, according to the ABC News report.

German quality has gone from being the best to the worst in just a couple of decades. The most reliable car on earth was the Merc W123. After that everything turned to custard.

The reliability issues were due to engine complexity as car makers bring emission down in order to comply with EU regulations on climate change and pollution.
Same as in Japan where turbo's were discarded and cars became docile from the 1990 hey days of Mitsubishi evo's and Toyota Supra turbos. And hybrids were introduced.

Emission requirements affect all brands but it hasn't stopped Toyota, Lexus from maintaining their reliability reputations.

I bet that decline started some time after 2001.
