his reply:
George Yeo PRs don't vote. First generation adult PRs don't do NS but their sons have to if they want to retain their PR or to work/study here.
Need your help to formulate an effective and appropriate counter response. Because of nature of facebook, cannot have lengthy discourse lah... must be short, sharp and sweet response (best if it's witty too...).....
So, how's best to proceed now? would like to get some views from bros here...

Tell him that citizens don't vote too because of the GRC system

I wouldn't give that as the first reply if I were GY. Ah Guan is right, everyone remembers the walkovers and he made a fool of himself. I would say that PR are not entitled to healthcare benefits for a start until probed further.

Anyway, I think debating on his FB is giving him the attention and sympathy votes he may be aiming to get.

Why he even bother to set up Facebook sia? Only invite ppl to whack him sia.

Someone in PAP has said, "Vote is a privilege, not a right." It means nothing when the "privilege of voting" of the citizens could just be taken away by the PAP government. Next. ;)

Name and quote your source and stop pointing your fat fingers

i would ask GY : can i convert my citizenship into 1st generation PR so that I can siam NS (2 + 10 years)?

<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD class=wintiny noWrap align=right>18919.17 in reply to 18919.1 </TD></TR><TR><TD height=8></TD></TR><TR><TD class=msgtxt>
Ask him...
1. Why 1st generation PRs can be given free scholarships worth hundreds of thousands (including living allowances) per person while not having to serve NS while Singaporeans who have to serve NS and years of reserve service need to take up huge study loans to go to varsity?
2. Why are kids of citizens not given priority over those of PRs in Primary 1 registration?
3. What are the causes for low birth rate in Singapore? Will importing foreigners mindlessly can solve the root causes or worsen them? Will ordinary Singaporeans having to take 30-year mortgage before they can pay for ever smaller HDB flats and without job security solve the problem?
4. What's the unemployment rate of Singapore-born citizens - both in absolute no. and in %? Given this no., does he still feel that foreigners are creating jobs for Singaporeans or the other way round personally?
5. Before foreigners were being imported mindlessly, Singapore was number 1 or 2 in productivity in the world, but why has it dropped like shit since then?
6. What makes him think that he and the other ministers deserve to be paid several times more than the President of USA while unable to have
  • Minimum wage LAW,
  • Citizens-first labour LAW and
  • Institutional social welfare
like in other countries where the govt is much more lowly paid and
  • When average wages of Singaporeans have stagnated at levels 2 decades ago?
And what does he feel about the fact that he and his ministers are
  • Being given a minimum wage that is benchmarked to the highest paid in the land and
  • Automatically entitled to lifetime pension when they reach 55 at the same time even when they are still employed by the government?
7. What minimum family income does he feel it is enough for a family of 6 (2 parents, 2 school-going children and 2 retired parents' parents) to survive on?
8. Why does it cost $3.8M per MRT station to install glass doors for Singapore while only $870k per MRT station for Taiwan by ST Electronics? http://singsupplies.com/showthread.php?t=35192
9. What does he mean by
"...everyone has to "remember their place in society before engaging in political debate", and not consider themselves as being equal with the government."

Simple. Do we award PR to those who never stepped onto Singapore soil?

If he says no, he is lying. If he say yes, Cannot Sing will be in deep shit.

Differences?

PRs don't hold Singapore passports, they still hold their respective home countries' passports and citizenships. If Singapore is sinking, PRs can go back to their home countries. Singapore can't stop them and their home countries can't refuse them.

Singapore citizens hold Singapore passports. In good times, of course the Singapore passport is very useful and welcome by most of the world. In bad times however, Singapore can refuse Singapore passportholders exit out of Singapore, regardless of liable for NS or not, male or female, young or old. And in bad times, I don't think that the Singapore passportholders would be so welcome by foreign countries anymore.

Solution?

1. Secure yourselves as PRs somewhere else first, then come back to Singapore if there're still grounds to mine for you here. Have a backdoor open and be prepared to leave at the first sign of trouble. Reference: HK pre- and post-1997.

Or;

2. Nevermind the other countries and pastures, options and contingencies. Be prepared to live, die in and for Singapore.
