
PETALING JAYA - MALAYSIA has released former Singapore's Jemaah Islamiah leader Mas Selamat Kastari from the Internal Security Act and handed him over to the Immigration Department for deportation.
In a statement on Friday, police special task force director (operations/counter terrorism) Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the Home Minister had cancelled the detention order against Mas Selamat, a Singaporean.
The order was cancelled on Friday at 10.30am.
Mas Selamat had been hiding in Johor since March 2008 after escaping from the Whitley detention centre in Singapore on Feb 27, 2008.
He was captured in Johor on April 1 last year. -- ANN/THE STAR
