28 hurt in bus-trailer collision

A COLLISION between a trailer and a private bus at Tuas on Friday morning left 28 people injured, two of them seriously. The accident, at the junction of Tuas South Avenue 3 and 5, happened at about 8.15am. Thirteen of the casualties, including two with head injuries, were taken to National University Hospital (NUH), while the other 15 were sent to Alexandra Hospital. The private bus was ferrying employees from the Boon Lay MRT Station to the CIBA VISION contact lenses manufacturing plant at Tuas South Avenue 3 when the collision happened.
In a statement to The Straits Times, CIBA VIASION Pte Ltd said: 'We are now contacting the family members of our employees to inform them of the accident. 'Other employees have also been deployed to the hospitals to be on standby to provide support and assistance to their injured colleagues and their families.' The trailer's driver was un-hurt and is now assisiting the police in investigations. When contacted, Hwa Tiong Contractor, which owns the trailer, declined comment. Police investigations are ongoing.
