Didn't McDonald's think of sensitivity of other races?

I REFER to the ongoing controversy involving McDonald's Chinese New Year promotion, in which customers can collect a set of soft toys denoting the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The fact that McDonald's is offering an incomplete series is not as disconcerting as the reason it gave for replacing one zodiac animal, the pig. McDonald's said it did so 'out of sensitivity for its Muslim customers'.
First, McDonald's upset the Chinese community because the zodiac is a treasured part of its culture dating back a few thousand years. McDonald's worsened its arbitrary alteration of Chinese culture by replacing the pig with Cupid - which has nothing to do with Chinese culture or history.
Is McDonald's trying to tell us that the sensitivity of its Chinese customers is not important?
Second, McDonald's caused unnecessary confusion and misunderstanding among the communities. My sense is that Muslims and non-Muslims seem equally puzzled by its action.
I am disappointed that the authorities and relevant interest groups have not come forward to clear the air.
Going by the logic of its explanation in excluding the pig, the chain should stop serving beef in its restaurants, 'out of sensitivity' for its Hindu customers.
