The simple fact that Straits times still charges a subscription for ppl to login to read news is more than apparent that the upper management knows nothing about how the real world works, and the only thing keeping them going is the monopoly they enjoy, but it's advantage is dwindling everyday.

Quite right. One can get international news and quality columns from the BBC, Associated Press, The New York Times, and China Daily on apps for free.

For local news, there is CNA online and the news on the telly. Given how busy and overworked Sinkies are, they don't have time to trudge through so many pages and most just scan through the articles that are of particular interest to them. The Shite Times is definitely a waste of paper. It is only good for use in litterboxes or if you have no toilet paper and cannot hold it, a few pages of the Shite Times can be very handy indeed.

For a news website which holds no advantage over other international newsdesk, the only "exclusive" contents are local news. Seriously, who wanna pay to read local news? Pay to read about old cow vs tender grass? read romping in toyota alphard? pay to read about successful ang moh living the high life and drop dead when drunk? Lee Boon Yang is right, things are looking grim since 5-6 years ago...

The road ahead for Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) will not be easy, with the way media consumption is changing, said its new chairman Dr Lee Boon Yang.

'It will be a long and arduous journey,' he said, after being re-elected to the board by shareholders at the annual general meeting. 'New technology has changed media consumption patterns and opened up competitive distribution channels.'

This is hilarious. A vet being pushed in to take over TT(who became Pres).
This called for an urgent re-election(AGM), since he is not confident, lamenting a challenging job.
Why the lackeys vote him? SPH can consist of ex-ISA, etc.
He should magmanimosly reject the offer since he is negative

Mr Lee has sounded the right warning, although a little too late. The ST is loosing readers every day to some other on-line papers, forums, etc...
Why must the ST always appoint a former top-gun to its top post. It don't make sense.
Aren't there many highly-intelligent people Singaporeans who can take over that "kerusi" (seat) and bring back "the dignity and respect" that the paper once enjoyed before all the political gate-crashing and interference came that drove the last exasperated ang-mor to flee for his safety and well-being.
If the ST stubbornly continue as a monopoly, it is going to make it be more difficult for itself. Frankly, many an ardent readers have lost interest in it, including GOOD OLD ME.
Readers have many other respectable news portals to turn to where they get excellent and independent news. All the worlds papers are available on-line for free. I don't about ST as I don't care to look for it on-line for it pales in comparison to all other truly independent papers.
The ball is in ST's court.
