I made a police report yesterday regarding an old man (abt 70yrs, 5ft 6in or 1.7m tall and slim) who goes around in BKK looking for Singaporeans.
Last Thursday (9-June-2011) I was approached by him in the morning about 10am at Pratunam area and he showed me his pink NRIC and sg passport. He claimed that he came from Hatyai by rail with his wife and was a victim of pickpocket in Chinatown. He asked for a loan and would return me when he got back home in 3 days time. Why 3 days? Because 1 day to get back to Hatyai by rail, another day by bus back to sg (said he'd try to get an advanced unpaid bus ticket from one of the sg tour branch office there and pay back as soon as he reached Golden Mile Shopping Center). So on Monday he will drive to my work place to return the money.
I never thought he is a cheat. He even said he is 70+yrs old won't tell lies. Quite right, how can an old man be a cheat?
Damned, I believed him. Should help a fellow citizen in dire straits. I gave him S$100 after copying his NRIC details and his hp number. I should have took a picture of him so I can post it up. I could have checked his passport for arrival date and place.
He moved out of the address on the NRIC many years ago, hp is M1 but no one picked up (could be someone else's). His neighbours told me I wasn't the first victim and he had broken up with his family long ago. Looks like his modus operandi is to get $$$ from fellow citizens and stay there as long as he can and I am sure forever. So I went to the police post near his home.
