Bishan-Toa Payoh TC sends Letter of Demand to resident for S&C arrears

This has been the norm for years I dare say decades....it's just that last time less people in hardship.
Go to court 14 and night court 26 in the subordinate courts everyday to see the hordes of sinkies sued by their TCs.
Many are jailed for failing to pay up....irony is after serving time....the resident is still liable for all monies owed....including lawyer fees, penalties and interests.

after receive lawyer letter still no payment then warrant of arrest will be issued. a malay colleague father kenna so many warrant of arrests (traffic fines and TC fee arrears) that he briefly become most wanted man in singapore.

Less than $200 arrears only send lawyer letter liao? I can imagine the folks with not much education and those ah gong and ah ma panicking upon receiving such a letter. They probably would have go begging with relatives and friends to pay that $200. No wonder their arrears are lower.

am wondering what the lawyer's fee is to write the letter???

The Bishan-Toa Payoh (BTP) Town Council had recently, through, a law firm, sent a demand letter to my mom for arrears of conservancy and service charges of $168. My mom has been a resident of Toa Payoh for more than 40 years and is now 82 years old suffering from alzheimer’s dementia. She is wheelchair bound staying alone currently being taken care by a care giver.

His mum gave him life, carried him around for 9 months, nurtured him as a baby and guided him through life to adulthood.

What does she get in return? She gets abandoned by the children she raised and dumped with a caregiver who is obviously doing an inadequate job of managing her affairs now that she's lost her marbles.

Instead of trying to smear the town council and making ridiculous demands, he should stand in front of a mirror and ask himself how he can callously abandon his own mother during a period of her life when she deserves some pay back.

What the BTP Town Council could have done was to make an effort to pay a visit to the resident in particular to find out the reason why the fee was in arrears for four months despite reminders being sent.
:*:

Is it that difficult for him to visit his mother once a week and sort out her mail? I can't believe he actually expects the town council to take over the role of "filial son" on his behalf. It's simply mindboggling!!! Life may be hectic in Singapore but that is no excuse for abandoning your own parents. The "4 months of arrears" says a lot more about his willful abandonment of his own mother than it does about town council red tape. Where was he when all the bills were piling up?

In sinkieland you can die but can't get sick....
You can have no money but cannot owe government money....

town council is mad ! using a lawyer to recover rubbish amount!

You never know if those lawyers are also PAP's 'ka ki lang', just like AIM.

Maybe it's a $2 law firm. ;)

The Bishan Toa Payoh Town Council did reply, but I understand that TRE did not post. This was their response:
