Big firms 'should bid for World Cup TV rights'

WHAT Singapore needs is a consortium of companies with enough financial muscle and who are willing to secure the broadcast rights to the football World Cup.

For now, Singapore can only pin its hopes on the Football Association of Singapore being able to persuade the sport's world body Fifa that a small country with football as its national game and which is host of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games should get a better contract deal.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports), yesterday painted these options as the only way to break the deadlock over the 2010 World Cup broadcasts.

Couldnt agree more with you. They just dont have their citizens at heart. Always counting on sponsorships and charity to serve the people. All along TV stations had never encounter such silly hiccups until Singtel, Starhub and MDA came along.
