"Women's lingerie is tiny yet its price is high. It is more expensive than a housing unit if calculated by square meter," said Ren Zhiqiang, a mogul in China's property industry. His words have drawn wide criticism and prompted netizens to make a ranking of 2013 housing prices in China measured in "cups," reports state-run news agency Xinhua.
The "cup ranking" calculates a square meter of lingerie to be worth 30,000 yuan (US$4,900), using the average price of 600 yuan (US$98) for upper scale inner wear. By this calculation, Beijing's housing price is equivalent to a G cup, topping the list. Beijing's busty build is followed by Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Xiamen, the cup sizes trending downwards. Chongqing came inwith the modest A cup, deciding to bank in on personality instead.
As Ren predicted that housing prices are likely to rise, netizens think the cups may grow as well.
