The water loss comes from increased urine production (beer is diuretic), which in turn flushes out more toxins from your body.

A little dehydration is no big deal. In fact, you lose plenty of water after exercise.

You can always drink water afterwards to replenish.
 
When one is unsure whether the local water is safe, it is best to drink beer to be sure not to get gastroenteritis.
