Fresh graduates' top pick for the most sought after employers was announced last evening at the Singapore's 100 leading graduate employers awards 2010.

Barclays Capital emerged the overall winner, followed by Singapore Technologies Engineering and Citibank in second runner-up position.

International banks J.P. Morgan and Credit Suisse, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), and financial service firms PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young were also among the top 10.

The event was organised by GTI Media (GTI), a graduate careers and research business, to celebrate and recognise both the strength of employer brands on campus and excellence in graduate recruitment.

The results were compiled from a survey of 3,700 final-year students and fresh graduates.

The survey found that students prize promotion opportunities most, followed by professional development and training, among other findings.

Graduates were also looking forward to an average starting salary of $2,993.

Michele Lam, publishing director of GTI said according to the survey, “Good work-life balance is prioritised over a highly demanding position."

"Respondents also felt that the ability to develop specialised skills is important in their first job."

"The survey also found that an overwhelming majority of respondents are prepared to relocate in their first job with Asia and Europe being popular destinations.”

GTI also recognised industry leaders in six specific sectors. The Ministry of Education won in its category for Public Service or Statutory Boards.
