去年營運遇上亂流的華碩，雖在董事長施崇棠一聲令下全力轉型，但經過1年時間，營運並未好轉，被施崇棠力邀回華碩當救火隊的現任副董事長兼策略長徐世昌，決定重手整頓不賺錢事業，第一步先改組獲利不佳的電競事業。
從8月下旬開始，華碩啟動新一波組織重整，原電信客戶負責人暨全球副總裁林宗樑，轉任商用電腦事業群，負責電競ROG品牌的全球行銷總監尤彥博留職停薪。也有近百名員工收到選擇內部轉職或者優離的信函，新一波裁員消息甚囂塵上。
本刊調查，去年喊出要華碩人換腦袋的董事長施崇棠，將改革重任交給執行長沈振來操刀，但1年下來，華碩並未駛出逆風，營運日漸險峻，除了新成立的電競事業不敵微星等競業，全力衝刺的智慧型手機又遭華為、OPPO、小米等大陸品牌壓境，雙雙遇到挫折，營收獲利不如預期。
尤其是今年第2季，華碩交出的營運成績單，每股獲利1.8元，創下8年新低，眼見中美貿易戰打得火熱，一線手機大廠新機壓境，徐世昌要求沈振來下重手，對不賺錢的事業精簡人力。據了解，首波遭到精簡的是平板電腦，以及負責電信手機的團隊；另外營收占比1成到2成的電競事業群，也成為改組的目標。
「電競團隊超過700人，規模人數與微星相當，銷售表現卻沒與拉開距離。」華碩員工透露。「華碩雖是主機板龍頭，但電競筆電遇上的，還有惠普、戴爾與宏碁這些筆電大咖，產品優勢不再，又面臨強敵環伺，獲利不如預期下，自然被動刀。」
