Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population pap

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

rent will come down if busine
let demand and supply dictate rentals

The problem is that the biggest land lords are the GLC, Government link Company !

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

sme got to evolve to improve productivity and stop relying on labour intensive production model. if Singapore cost high due to rental and utilities, u can move to johor. blame your pap master for making everything so expensive! don't blame the people not willing to work for low wage. not only business cost high, living cost also high!!!

When the SME moves, you idiots are the ones who will suffer.

Right, and that's because we all work for the SMEs.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

When businesses get political they are treading dangerously on a thin line. What Sinkies need is backbone. If Tunglok dares to come out to support PAP openly, Sinkies should stop patronising them. Leave them to FTs to patronise them. BO ga si... these bastards don't understand who made them.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

FT are preferred over locals because of NS disruption, Higher pay.
Even if we level the playing field for pay by min wages or any other method, even for same pay, employer still prefer FT.

The whole NS thing have to be reinvented, defending Singapore by the conventional method is not going to work.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

Conversely, I have zero respect for those who have never run their own companies but are full of wisdom when it comes to telling me how I should run mine.

I am most certainly not interested in telling you how you how to run your own company. I replied only because you posted your problems here. I am only interested in telling the government how I want the country to be run.

I have zero respect for those employers who keep whining about staffing problems when all they are interested in maximising their bottomline without putting any consideration to the welfare and safety of staff.

The MNCs without foreign workers will also move. Better sell your house and car before you get the pink slip. :)

Right, and that's because we all work for the SMEs.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

We can be sure lots of MP candidates from the PAP from ASME

Ya, set up $2 company and employ 20 foreigners. No wonder Singapore island nearly sink.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

It explains part of it but does not explain all of it. For years, we had Banglas in construction industry, then F&B started using maids who didnt mind moonlighting to help at the stall, etc. There must be a lot of abuses along the way and over the years. I have heard of SMEs deliberately hiring an old Singaporean uncle to be the janitor so that they could hire some more foreign cheap labour (abuse of the dependency ratio). Despite all these, the place was still alright, nobody felt the squeeze because the flow was controlled. It is the great flood that the GCT govt unleashed and it was incredible that all this smart people up there in the Cabinet were all functioning in silos and didnt know that the system was left in auto-pilot with the sluice gates wide open, until the ground erupted.

For example, how do you explain the fact that we have 200,000 Indian nationals here working in PMET jobs, when Singaporean PMETs were driving taxis?

Hi Scroobal,

It's not just SMEs. It goes deeper than that.

They're started by entrepreneurs that are good in their chosen fields. They aren't managers they're risk takers and many are very intolerant of any behavior which they perceive as a weakness.

You may be right about entrepreneurs. They aren't good managers. That was also the reason why Sun Ce didn't pass the baton to the 2nd bro who was also like him but to his youngest bro who was a good manager. Sun Ce was also referred to as the "Little Conqueror".

I find there is a contradiction between your two observations. For older people who are set in their ways, most I have met do not really wish to jump to a totally new environment unless the pay is something they can't refuse. My conclusion is that they wish to jump not because they are using you as a stepping stone but rather, the conditions are so bad that they would take the next job even if the pay is only slightly higher.

Don't say that. You are saying Sammy boy is not a good boss. But I fully agree with you that older PMETs have less motivation to move. You actually save retraining cost when you employ older PMETs.

If I go back to my multinational days when I was an employee manager, I do have to point out that every single department in the company had problems with getting Singaporeans to be flexible in their working hours and postings but had no problems whatsoever with the Malaysian Chinese who were only too happy to be sent to hardship postings as long as it was worth their while.

What you were seeing was not a difference between a Singkie and a Malaysian but an employee with a family here and an employee who was alone here. I have Malaysian PRs who have left my company so that they could spend more time with their families. Another thing, Malaysians are quite mercenary. For a few dollars more, they will leave.

These MNCs are in the wrong country ...they should be locating in Vietnam, Mexico ...not in sinkapore.

The PAP set up these research institutes so as to put sinkapore in high-value space ...so far, nothing has panned out. How much have we spent on these research institutes. Those new newly minted sinkees have cost taxpayers tens of millions in funding ...yes, we pay for these foreigners to study in expensive top-notch schools overseas from undergraduate to post graduate. In return, they take up sinkapore citizenship and serve some years in slavery.

if the rent goes down, the incomes of the landlords will reduce.
Not only that, Singapore will in turn end up being an economy based on low skilled and technology.

Hello ...we are already a low-skilled and no technology country! What have you been smoking?

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

I own part of an SME in Singapore. Singaporeans don't seem to realise that as a businessman, you are driven by $$$. That's why we run businesses instead of working for others. We do whatever it takes to maximise turnover.

If hiring becomes too difficult, I'll simply move somewhere else. It's that simple. If I do, 5 Singaporeans will lose their jobs.

Sinkapore is the wrong place for you ...maybe Manila should be your new location ...you can hire pinoy for cheap, you can abuse them freely (oh, just hire bodyguards for yourself if you do that).
The 5 sinkies (are they sinkees or minted ones) will be able to find jobs elsewhere, greener pastures. Maybe they would consider moving to NZ.

For example, how do you explain the fact that we have 200,000 Indian nationals here working in PMET jobs, when Singaporean PMETs were driving taxis?

This is the result of running a country by lifting all borders. It is the same as running the world or a small part of the world with no borders but with different cost of living in different parts and let capitalism run freely. Once you start off running this way, a lot of complicated issues arise which are very difficult to resolve.

In a country with a clear urban and a rural population, the urban part continues to expand at the expense of the rural but there will be pressure on the wage level of the cities brought about by the rural migration. If not properly controlled, this can have nasty repercussion.

Re: Association of Small and Medium Enterprises hits out at Workers' Party population

It was a generation of people like us, who had the dedication to work & 'bite the bullet' when things got bad, even to the extend of helping the company to survive through bad times, by putting in extra hours with no additional pay or benefits, taking a pay & bonuses cut. BUT, with all the 'sing song' improvement in productivity , in which the people of my generation did improve, what were they rewarded with??

The company (ies) to cut cost, just closed down & move on, paying very remuneration with the co operation with NTUC, for they are very smart, they consult them first ( remember PRO BUSINESS). What do we get? SCREWED!! by the union(s) we supported.

The same Company(ies) remember already have benefits from the government when they started business here, pioneer status etc to name a few...in short...the hard working workers are the ones that will always get the short end of the stick..mind you, these are unionized workers...and if you protest too much, you know what you will get.

The same SINgapore workers, will get the blame for being choosy, picky, asking for more pay, not willing to work long hours, not willing to put in hoilday time & so forth..this had been sung so often, that became an excuse for the SME's to sing to the government for Foreign workers.

Who doesn't know, company needs to keep cost down to compete & survive...but at the expense of?? with the encouragement of...??

The same old shits, from 1976, 1986, 1991-2, 1997....are repeating itself, the same 'gang of people' who created the same problems are the 'same gang of people' are offering solutions to the problems. Have we not seen this in 1991 after the election?? then 1997...

the cycle goes on & on....the blame still go on & on..SINgapore workers this & that...

If the SINgapore workers are that bad...they should dismantle the education system & the entire labor union...it is the hard working dedicated workers of the late 60's, 70's & 80's..built this country called SINGAPORE

Stand up & be SALUTED...all the other said things...are just pure nonsense..

wow! u really move me to tears!

whenever there is a tight spot, pap expect Singaporeans or to them workers or employees to bite the bullet. low pay, pay cuts and extra hours.
during good times no reward but boss get new BMW 7series and tell u bo tan.
don't threaten employees by keep saying jobs will leave sg when people don't bite the bullet.
WHAT THE FUCK DID THE GOV DO BY GETTING HUGH PAY AND BONUSES EVEN DURING BAD TIME! WHY MUST BE THE PEOPLE KEEP ON BITING THE BULLET DURING BAD TIME!!!
LET THE FUCKING GOV AND EMPLOYERS BITE THE FUCKING BULLET!
VOTE PAP OUT!!! :oIo::oIo::oIo:
